DStv partners with cricket East African to showcase live matches

SuperSport will be broadcasting the East African Cricket Competitions set for August after DStv announced the partnership.

The Pan African broadcaster said it will show both the Twenty20 and 50 over versions of the competition that brings together teams from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

According to SuperSport’s general manager for East Africa, Auka Gecheo, the broadcasts will help uplift levels of the game as well as enable more funding through sponsorships.

“We believe in the growth of sports in Kenya and we are committed to seeing all sports benefit from the value that broadcast offers,” says Auka.

“We do hope that television entices sponsors and other partners to come into cricket and help grow back the game to the top level it was a few years ago.”

He added the recent round of broadcasts show the channel’s commitment to local sports with involvement in local football, basketball and athletics.

Although the broadcaster will be showcasing the East African tournament for the third straight season, there is a feeling of increased demand for sports content especially with pay tv platform Zuku showing interest in sports that SuperSport has had its hands on before includingfootball andrugby.
