Dubai based Ersal has launched MobiPesa that will remit funds to mobile subscribers in Kenya.

MobiPesa, powered by Rapid Communications Limited, will facilitate money transfers in real-time, enabling person-to-person money transfers.

The platform will enable Kenyans working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to transfer money back home economically and safely.

The service which will be provided at the Al Ghurair Exchange branches in the UAE will need senders to provide the beneficiaries name and mobile number and the M-Pesa subscriber will receive the money minutes to then be withdrawn from any M-Pesa agent in Kenya.

Mohamed AbdiGello, Kenya’s ambassador to the UAE, said: “The choice of Kenya as the first country in Africa to launch this service is a clear demonstration of the many potential investment opportunities in Kenya.

“The information and telecommunications sector has continued to open new opportunities in our country. Kenyans are now using ICT in innovative ways that are attracting global attention, among them mobile money transfer.”

Helmi Yousef, general manager at Al Ghurair Exchange, said: “Mobile money transfers are the future of the remittance business, with Rapid Communications onboard as our partner we will be able to leverage their superior technology platform to offer our customers with a money transfer service right at their fingertips.”
