Vodacom to reward customers for using mobile money

Vodacom Tanzania has unveiled a reward program set to reward customers using the M-Pesa service with free airtime for every transaction.

Vodacom managing director Rene Meza announced the 50/- bonus airtime for money sent or received on the M-Pesa platform, which will enable customers to make calls within the network.

According to him, the more one sends or receives money throughout the promotion period, the more bonus airtime they shall receive.

“This promotion is exciting to Vodacom as it will encourage more of our customers to use M-Pesa and allow them to see how M-Pesa can change their lives and sustain our growth plans in money transfer,” Meza said.

Mr. Meza expressed that M-Pesa remains one of the most important products that Vodacom has introduced into Tanzania, hence the promotion is aimed at rewarding Vodacom customers for their continued loyalty and support.

Since its introduction into the Tanzanian market in April 2008, M-Pesa has over 3 million subscribers and over 20,000 agents across the East African nation.

Some additional services that the subscribers enjoy include paying for local flights on Precision Air, school fees as well as examination fees to NECTA, deposit and withdraw money through CRDB Bank and more recently to pay insurance premiums and receive claims payments.

Other utility companies such as LUKU, DAWASCO and DSTV have since included their financial management systems on M-Pesa.
