Nokia South Africa appoints Shaun Durandt as new GM

Shaun Durandt, former employee of both MTN and BlackBerry, has been appointed as Nokia South Africa’s new general manager (GM).

Durandt was appointed to lead the company’s business for the South African market as of last month. Durandt is tasked with ensuring the achievement of the mobile phone manufacturer’s short and long term goals.

“With the goal of providing strategic, operational and people leadership, Durandt will develop and deploy an ongoing business strategy that will facilitate the continued growth and success of Nokia in South Africa,” said Nokia in a statement.

Nokia added: “Boasting more than a decade of industry experience,Durandt held senior management roles within MTN’s retail and operational structures prior to joining BlackBerry, where he held various sales and strategic positions over the past five years, the most recent being head of distribution for Africa.”

Durandt is now based at Nokia South Africa’s headquarters in Johannesburg, Gauteng and will report directly to Nokia South East Africa’s vice president. Durandt was originally from Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu Natal.

“I consider my new role at Nokia as enormous opportunity, with good timing being absolutely key. I look forward to being part of this chapter in the Nokia story and to contributing to the emotional affinity that customers throughout South Africa have for the Nokia brand,” said Durandt.
