SA’s Exclusive Books pioneers gamification and social bookselling

South African retailer Exclusive Books has launched a new feature on its website tagged “Stickers” that brings social business and gamification to online book sale.

Exclusive Books said “Stickers” will reward visitors to its site with discounts on books based on their social activities on the website.

The feature allows customers to share and rate items in the online store by placing “stickers” on them. Once enough stickers are placed on an item, it qualifies customers for group discounts and also individual discounts.

There are different stickers users can place on the items and interact with the store.

A sticker can be placed on an item to give it a rating, users also get smiley stickers which earn a specific item a discount . They also get rewards stickers that allow them to claim discounts on items. Users can also share their book recommendations on Twitter and Facebook.

Smiley stickers are earned through rating and sharing items. The process is transparent. According to Exclusive Books, when an individual customer places 150 smileys on an item, it is equivalent to a 10 percent discount. If a group of customers place 100 smileys on an item, a 15 percent discount is applicable.

The discount is made available within 24 hours on the website.

This new innovation is a first for South African online retailing expected to increase sales for Exclusive Books. It also sees customers becoming “marketers” as they rate and share their recommendations with their friends and family on social networks.

As HumanIPO recently reported, Social Business and Gamification are amongst the leading trends for businesses to implement to retain customers and constantly engage with them.
