The Kenyan government is to carry out a review of structure and programming at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), according to the new cabinet secretary for ICT.

Fred Matiangi said the changes will help the state broadcaster “live to its billing” and its mandate as prescribed in the constitution.

Matiangi added the changes will also ensure better service delivery and make it vibrant in the eyes of the public.

“We understand that we as the government and KBC have a universal service responsibility and a responsibility to the people of Kenya to give them the best service,” he said.

According to the state broadcaster’s official website, the minister said they would ensure that the broadcaster delivers its mandate with focus especially on its programming.

“Our goal is to transform KBC to a current and relevant station to the population that is becoming more and more dynamic through relevant content and programming,” he added.

Matiangi, who was accompanied by KBC managing director Waithaka Waihenya and former Ministry of Information and Communication permanent secretary Bitange Ndemo on a familiarisation tour of the broadcasting house, also said the broadcaster would embark on upgrading its technology to conform to the changing information technology demands.
