South Africa has been ranked 37th in Ookla’s Net Index quality rating, improving by almost three points since December and beating the likes of Egypt, Australia and Germany.

The Net Index Household Quality Index awarded South Africa 82.85 points in a pingtest, only 3.15 points less than the United States in 24th position.

The worldwide average increased by five points to 85.47, with South Korea, Azerbaijan and Hong Kong having the best broadband quality with ratings of 89.64, 89.16 and 88.58 respectively.

Measured over a period of 30 days, the tests measure quality over a distance of 300 miles between the client and the server.

South Africa’s quality rating exceeds its speed performance, which is far behind the world average of 13.65MB per second at 3.85 MB per second.
