Ghanaian interior ministry appeals for ICT systems in fighting fire

Ghanaian minister for the interior, Kwesi Ahwoi, has appealed to the chief fire officer to implement more training programmes in fire fighting that will embrace ICT systems.

Ahwoi believes using ICT systems will allow the service of fire fighting to reach a high level of advanced technology and sophistication in fighting and detecting fire outbreaks throughout the nation.

Furthermore, Ahwoi believes many of the fires that broke out in Ghana during the first quarter of this year may have been avoided if appropriate technological equipment and fire safety measures were available at the time.

“This is the reason why government is doing everything within its power to provide the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS)  with the necessary equipment for fire fighting,” said Ahwoi.

He added the fire service should actively collaborate with the appropriate stakeholders to implement a fire audit encompassing all markets in order to find lapses, which may result in fire outbreaks.

The proposal was made by Ahwoi during the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) passing-out parade of Recruit Course 46, which took place at the Fire Academy and Training school (FATS) in Accra.
