MTN has announced it will be integrating its mobile money systems in Rwanda and Uganda as part of cross-border mobile money initiative. The integration will become effective from next month.
When it is officially launched, MTN said its subscribers will be able to send and receive money between the two countries. Norman Munyampundu, General Manager of MTN Rwanda said his company would be signing an agreement with MTN Uganda later this month.
“After establishing our presence in Uganda, we will rollout the interconnection platform across the East African Community bloc,” he said.
He also announced that MTN Mobile Money penetration increased by 81 percent at the end of September and contributed 44 percent of the company’s revenues.
