The Bluegumbosch stadium in QwaQwa in the Free State is set to be renamed after controversial South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) chief operating officer (COO) Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

The New Age reports Jeff Mthomela of the state’s Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation said the name change is at a final stage after public consultations were held.

“It was decided unopposed by the community that the facility be named after Motsoeneng because the people felt he had done a lot of good things in QwaQwa,” Mthomela said.

“Remember that the committee has no jurisdiction so the municipality then took over the matter. The name change is now in its final stage and we can expect to see a big board with Motsoeneng’s name on it any time from now.”

HumanIPO reported earlier this month opposition party the Democratic Alliance (DA) would be taking legal action against Motsoeneng’s appointment, which occurred in spite of calls from numerous parties to have him suspended after findings by public protector Thuli Madonsela, who reported the COO had lied about his education history and given himself raises while holding the position.
