eTranzact open to deeper collaboration with local developers

Nigerian payments company eTranzact has expressed its openness to deeper collaborations with local developers to produce better integrated payment systems that will operate at the standard of global payment systems such as PayPal.

“Collaboration is key to the growth and development of better integrated payment systems for Nigeria,” the company said in a statement. “We believe web is the new offline and mobile is the new online, and understanding this fact we have been pushing through on several interesting projects that have and will continue to put the power of payments in the hands of the average Nigerian.”

Already, the company said it is collaborating with different developer and technology groups to achieve its goal of providing world class payment solutions.

“We believe this next phase will see a lot more collaboration with local developers who are charged up to deliver truly world class solutions for Nigeria,” eTranzact said.

On the impact of the launch of PayPal in Nigeria, eTranzact said it would have been stronger if it had launched in Nigeria when the payment space was being built.

“It is too early to tell – however if Paypal had entered a few years earlier when we were trying to build out the payments space in Nigeria, then it might have been easier to say.”

With PayPal now in Nigeria, expectations are high that other international payment solution such as Stripe and Square may also be launched in Nigeria, a possibility eTranzact said is in line with its advocacy for financial inclusion and improve access.

“We are the number one advocate for financial inclusion and improved access for Nigerians and we continue to hold these values, looking for ways to help champion this,” it said.

“We have created an enabling environment that allows a lot of these companies to think of playing in the Nigerian payments space. We have so many success stories that we celebrate but haven’t told, and we hope to begin to tell these stories a lot more in the immediate future.”
