The Huduma centre in Eldoret, Kenya will be ready and available for public use in three weeks, according to Ministry of ICT cabinet secretary Dr Fred Matiangi.

HumanIPO reported in April the Kenyan government said it planned to roll out ten more Huduma centres within this financial year, adding to the ones already established at the General Post Office (GPO), City Square, Makadara and Machakos County Headquarters, with the government saying the centres had so far made KSh80million (US$920,000) in revenue.

Matiangi, speaking at the Ziwa Sub-District Hospital in Uasin Gishu County as he presided over the launch of the Health Facilities Programme at the institution, said the Jubilee government was ‘service based’ and focusing on the efficient delivery of services.

He called for the interfacing of national and county government projects for seamless execution, and urged government to make use of ICT technology when planning so as to manage resources and results in a better way.

The Ministry of ICT, Matiangi said, was impressed by the automation programme in the hospital and promised to support ICT initiatives in the county. He said he would convene a meeting with his ICT team and draw up a programme that will be used in Uasin Gishu County as an ICT example.

“A country is not developed by noise makers, but by people who engage in productive activities,” he said.
