Senegal may launch MNP in October

Abou Lo, former director general of Senegal’s telecoms regulator the Autorite de Regulation des Telecommunications et des Postes (ARTP), has announced the country could commence mobile number portability (MNP) as early as October.

Lo said he recently signed a decision on the guidelines for MNP and the process of choosing a service provider to manage the single platform was on course.

This announcement is in line with an earlier one last October on the official commencement of MNP by the regulatory body which said it was conducting a public consultation on the implementation of mobile number portability expected to be introduced by October 2014.

Senegal currently has three telecoms, with the market dominated by Orange which controls about 58 per cent of Senegal’s subscriber base at end of September 2013.  Sudatel and Tigo each control 21 per cent.
