Vodacom offers $95k to innovative employees

South Africa’s leading operator Vodacom has challenged employees to submit business-changing innovations, with inventors of ideas implemented by the company standing the chance to win ZAR1 million (US$95,312).

Shameel Joosub told his staff to “imagine what we could offer our customers, what kind of products we could develop, and what kind of work environment we could have”, if every member of the company strives to come up with innovative new ideas for the company.

“The possibilities are endless and now you have the opportunity to make the incredible happen,” said Joosub, announcing the prizes linked to the innovation challenge.

“For the first time in Vodacom’s history, we will be making one of our staff members a millionaire,” he said.

“I advised you recently about getting your creative juices flowing, so now is your chance to submit those brilliant ideas!”

Innovators whose ideas are implemented – with assistance from the operator’s innovation team – will be entered for a range of prizes, including the chance to win the ZAR1 million (US$95,312) top prize at the CEO Innovation Awards – while all innovators will be recognised as “game changers” within the industry.

“Innovation is a big, exciting part of what we do at Vodacom and I want everyone to be a part of it,” Joosub said.
