Leading South African mobile operator Vodacom has announced availability of Samsung’s flagship smartphone the Galaxy S5 from today.

“The response to the pre-registration of the Samsung Galaxy S5 has been overwhelming and we’re excited to be able to offer consumers this highly anticipated smartphone. In fact these types of devices are one of the main reasons we’re investing so heavily in our network,” said Vodacom’s chief commercial officer (CCO), Phil Patel.

The company said it would be exclusively stocking the gold S5 for the next month.

“The number of smartphones on our South African network is now well over seven million and it’s crucial that our network offers our new S5 customers the best experience possible. To ensure this we have invested over ZAR30 billion [US$2.8 billion] in our network over the past six years alone and have earmarked a further ZAR9 billion [US$860 million] for network investment in 2014,” said Patel.

The S5 is available on Vodacom Smart plans, which include Anytime Talk, Mobile Internet and Anytime Text.

HumanIPO reported earlier this week South Africa’s part state-owned operator Telkom Mobile had announced its customers will be able to buy the Galaxy S5 from today, with a range of data offers also available to cater to the high data needs of the device.
