One Year Later DreamAfrica Exhibits at NY TechDay

The Pearl Dream Inc to exhibit mobile app at the world’s largest startup event.

New York, USA – April 9th 2014:

African economies are some of the fastest-growing in the world, with much of this growth ignited by tech startups and an increased focus on mobile applications and technologies. Nigeria recently overtook South Africa as the largest African economy, and ABI Research has projected that within the next four years at least 50% of Africans will have 4G wireless access. One exciting new mobile app, DreamAfrica, will be featured at the world’s largest startup event on April 24th at Pier 92 in New York City. Dream Africa is an African storytelling app hosted by parent company, The Pearl Dream Inc., founded by Ugandan-born Brian Asingia (CEO) and Kenyan-born Franco Abott (CTO).

The startup has since been featured as a “trending venture” on VC4Africa.com and is the parent company of three brands focused on providing authentic African experiences for the world: DreamAfrica, DreamStore, and DreamTravel. Founded on April 9th 2013, The Pearl Dream today celebrates it’s one year anniversary.

The exhibit at NY TechDay highlights updates based on BETA customer feedback such as a lower subscription fee, now US$1.99 per month globally, with a 50% discount for teachers and schools. In addition, there are more stories and quizzes and a new user interface. According to the CEO, Brian Asingia, “DreamAfrica was updated to satisfy customer feedback while maintaining the appreciated features like highlighting, multi-device login, online and offline access.”

The Pearl Dream intends to focus on delivering on its goals this year by leveraging existing partnerships, expanding its DreamTravel offering and building its customer base. Asingia and Abott continue to build the strong foundation of their company, including a recently established animation team in Tanzania. DreamAfrica aspires to be the largest digital collection of African stories for kids with illustrated text, voice-overs, animations and quizzes/games. According to the CTO, Franco Abott, “DreamAfrica is ready for both families and schools with potential for a single login account to be used on up to 100 devices with block user subscription.”

The NY TechDay is a great stage for further expansion as they close their convertible note funding round and open for equity based funding, dreaming of a future filled with timeless African stories on more devices including smart TVs, top boxes and InCar systems.
