M&G releases SA election app

South African newspaper The Mail & Guardian has released “SA Votes”, an app allowing South Africans to keep up to date with news relating to the 2014 elections, which will take place in May.

“The 2014 national and provincial elections coincide with 20 years of democracy in South Africa, making your vote an important part of a watershed moment in our young democracy,” the publication said.

The Mail & Guardian said the app provides users with “all the latest news, opinions and information on the elections – wherever you are”.

“As a digital first media company, the Mail & Guardian is pleased to add this new app to our diverse stable of digital products,” said editor-in-chief, Chris Roper.

“We believe that part of our role in South African society is to educate and inform the public. We hope voters will use the app to arm themselves with the knowledge they need to vote responsibly in the upcoming national elections.”

The app is free and available for iOS and Android devices from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
