Harare residents to pay rates through Telecash

Telecel Zimbabwe has announced an agreement with Harare City Council, allowing residents of the city to pay their rates using the company’s mobile money platform Telecash.

HumanIPO reported last week the mobile money solution had started allowing MultiChoice subscribers to start paying their DStv accounts with their mobile phones, with the same option now extended to Harare ratepayers.

“Harare ratepayers will no longer have to make a trip to the Harare City Council every month to pay their bills. Bill payments can be made using their cellphone, at any time and from anywhere they may be,” said Telecel Zimbabwe mobile financial services director Nkosinathi Ncube.

“We hope this will not only be convenient for customers but also help ease congestion at the council offices.”

Telecash was launched at the beginning of this year, providing Telecel customers with mobile money capabilities.

The service allows users to send money to any mobile phone regardless of network, with international cash transfers also accepted by Telecash.
