PIVOT East partners with tech hubs for 2014 startups competition

Mobile startups competition PIVOT East has partnered with tech hubs across East Africa to ensure this year’s event is attended by the best entrepreneurs and developers in the region

HumanIPO reported earlier this month on the opening of applications for the fourth edition of PIVOT East, which will be held in Nairobi, Kenya on June 24 and 25.

The key objective for this year’s event is “to facilitate discovery of the next wave of high potential mobile startups in the region”, and with this in mind the competition has partnered with hubs from across East Africa, namely Outbox (Uganda), Hive Colab (Uganda), KINU (Tanzania), BUNI Hub (Tanzania), kLab (Rwanda), iceaddis (Ethiopia), iBiz Africa (Kenya) and C4DLab (Kenya).

The main role of the hubs will be to mobilise and support entrepreneurs and developers in the competition

Markos Lemma of iceaddis said: “Iceaddis, Ethiopian technology innovation hub and a home for Ethiopian entrepreneurs and techies is glad to participate in PIVOT East 2014. This is a unique opportunity for our community and beyond to participate for the first time from Ethiopia. We hope that PIVOT East 2014 will help publicise Ethiopian developers to the East African community.”

The new partnership is built on the contribution of Outbox hub to the 2013 edition of the conference, which was held in Kampala, Uganda.

“PIVOT East provides the best consistent and inclusive platform for startup engagement within the East African region. The opportunities it presents can be experienced by each and every participant, enabling everyone to benefit in one way or another,” said Richard Zulu, programme manager of Outbox.
