LG smart TV features validated by UL

LG Electronics has received a certificate of validation from the Underwriters’ Laboratories (UL) for its advanced speech and finger recognition features for its smart TVs.

LG is the first company to receive the certificate from the global product testing and inspection body with respect to smart TV technology, with the electronics company saying the speech and finger recognition functions are key to the enjoyment of their new range of premium TV sets.

“Being the first to receive UL certificate of validation for Smart TV features is confirmation of our innovation’s uniqueness and innovation,” said Do-joon Lee, vice president and head of the UX Division in LG’s Home Entertainment Company.

“We are committed to advancing the Smart TV experience to bring greater convenience to people’s lives.”

The UL tested how well the technology understood spoken commands and how quickly the devices responded, while for finger recognition the technology was tested in terms of movement tracking accuracy and effectiveness of its functions.

The advanced voice and finger technologies will be available commercially in the new line of LG smart TVs to be launched in 2014.

The technologies will be available for public testing at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2014, to be held in Las Vegas, United States.
