Etisalat Nigeria hits 15 million subscribers base, focuses on expansion and service upgrade

Etisalat Nigeria, a major network operator, has announced an increase in subscribers to 15 million, equating to 15 percent of the country’s telecoms market.

The operator only commenced operations in Nigeria around four years ago and has subsequently become one of the most successful late entrants, not just in Africa but globally.

Steven Evans, the operator’s Chief Executive, said: “At the beginning of 2012, we were moving towards 11 million subscribers. Now, 12 months later we have added four million active subscribers to our base, this is a phenomenal achievement.”

According to the CEO, Etisalat’s success hinge upon the company’s “innate ability to turn challenges into opportunities.”

Concerning the company’s agenda for Nigeria, he said Etisalat is focused on further upgrading and expanding its network, which he said is required in order to improve the company’s service quality in various parts of Africa’s largest country.
