BIUST plans to become more e-driven and teams up with Israeli University

The Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) and the Ben-Gurion University, Israel, are teaming up on research and teaching of technology for deserts and drylands.

BIUST is a new university located in the Tswapong Hills in the Central District of Botswana. It officially opened its doors at the end of last year.

“BIUST was established to provide an array of national, regional and international opportunities for higher education in science, engineering and technology and applied research in an environment that fosters problem-based learning, discovery, creativity and community engagement,” said Steven Howell, acting Vice Chancellor.

The teaching and researching of technology for deserts and drylands agreement was recently signed by Ben-Gurion University’s President Professor Rivka Carmi and BIUST’s Acting Vice Chancellor Howell.

BIUST is described as an e-driven university that is planning to set up a “robust ICT network infrastructure that will provide all-round campus connectivity,” said the university. The network will include wireless hotspots at various locations in the university as well as at student and staff residences.

“It is envisaged that in the near future an e-library, smart classrooms and online lectures will provide the ideal e-learning environment at BIUST.
