Telkom has launched the “Open Innovation Mega Challenge” for South Africans to create new technologies and online solutions.
The telecommunications company is inviting research institutes, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), universities, startups and individual inventors to compete for prizes.
The best proposal will win ZAR120,000 (US$12,000) with second and third prizes also available.
The competition guidelines said: “Entries are judged on their innovation, feasibility, commercial viability, market appeal, must directly benefit economic growth, social development and stimulate broadband penetration in the market and any other factor which Telkom may consider relevant.”
Telkom also said entries should be guided by the theme “Products for the Future”.
Entries close on November 30 with the winners announced on March 31, 2014.
