Die Antwoord listed as number one most watched and made in SA YouTube video

YouTube has released its most watched videos in 2012, with music group Die Antwoord’s ‘I Fink You Freeky’ the most watched South African video for 2012.

YouTube, owned by Google, has released the most-watched South African YouTube videos of 2012 – made in South Africa and viewed by South Africans – reflecting music, laughs and events that captured most attention in 2012.

Luke Mckend, Google SA Country Manager, said: “South Africans have embraced YouTube, creating and watching locally relevant content in several South African languages. They are part of a highly connected global community that uploads 72 hours of video every minute and watches 4 billion hours of video a month.”

Apart from music, comedy featured on the list includes MduComics’ Jesus is Shangaan animated skit. It is the second year in succession Die Antwoord and MduComics have made a top-ten appearance, despite 2011 being dominated by themountain biker who got taken out by a buck.

YouTube has also published its metrics for 2012 which showed globally 72 hours of video is uploaded to the site every minute and if the top five YouTube channels were pitted against cable channels they would be in the top 20 in terms of viewers.

One out of four views came from mobile devices and there were one billion views a day.
