MTN Zambia introduces COW

MTN Zambia has launched cell on wheels (COW) to increase network capacity and coverage in largely populated locations.

The newly released mobile trans receiver tower is fitted with a pneumatic mast, which can stretch out up to 30 meters.

COW is seen as the “perfect solution” to big events, such as traditional ceremonies, football games and concerts.

First launched in Lusaka, COW served its purpose at the 87th Agricultural and Commercial Show.

Ernest Paul, chief technical officer at MTN, said: “We have invested in the Cell on Wheels, which will be a regular feature at these important events,” the Daily Mail reported.

He added: “We have noted increased social and economic activity in all the areas where we have extended coverage or added data services.”

MTN Zambia is also running a network expansion programme, through which second and third long term evolution (LTE) services, as well as network modernisation can be completed.

HumanIPO reported earlier this month on MTN’s launches in other African countries, such as the SMS phone directory in Uganda and the Mobile Money campaign in Ghana.
