Apple’s iPad just got rivaled in the African market after the launch of Way-C, an Android tablet which came on sale last week in Congo. The African tablet is currently sold in Airtel stores in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire at $300.
Designed with Africa in mind by a young inventor Verone Mankou and his tech company VMK, the Way-C takes into account the accessibility, quality and price needs of the market whose tablet usage has largely been constrained to corporate use due to high prices.

Weighing 380 grams, it has a battery life of 6 hours, runs the Android 2.3 (Android Gingerbread) and has a 1.2GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory as well a support for Wi-Fi. Due to its low budget price, though, the device lacks advanced features such as a huge internal space, camera and bluetooth.
As for third party applications, a Way-C android competition will be held after every 3 months where three of the best local content application developers will be rewarded for developing for the tablet’s market.
